Leo Lion is an artist, writer, and educator based in NYC. He is the founder and Artistic Director of The Firebird Project, a theater arts and youth leadership initiative founded in 2013. Leo is a theater director, and a four-time recipient of the National Youth Arts Award for Outstanding Direction. As of 2019, he is an Associate Artistic Director at Phoenix Theatre Ensemble. His plays have been produced by Firebird, Downtown Art, and Writopia Lab’s Worldwide Plays Festival.
Leo also writes in other genres: his award-winning short stories, essays, and poetry have been published by Imagine Magazine (2014), Teen Ink Magazine, and the New York Scholastic Awards Blog. His flash-fiction collection, “Over the Bed: A Little Book About Things That Dwell,” is available on Amazon in Kindle and paperback. His novel “After” recieved a Gold Key from the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
Leo’s art and writing has been exhibited in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Parsons The New School for Design, and Casita Maria/Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. His work has been covered in the New York Daily News, TDF Stages Magazinе, Huffington Post (1 & 2), and Growing Without Schooling.
